7 stages of solo traveling

Thinking about solo traveling this summer? It might be the best idea that you have ever gotten. But are you aware of the 7 stages of solotraveling? Probably not because I just came up with the idea to write about it. Haha.

I am writing this from my own experience – but after talking with a lot of solo travelers that I have met on the road, I can say that this is probably how you will feel too at some point of your travels.foto 21

Stage 1: Excitement
When you first have the idea of solotraveling everything is still new and exciting. You probably go online, buy heaps of travel books, Lonely Planets and you do your research. Where do I want to go? What do I want to see? – This stage is super exciting. You discover many many many things and you can not wait to go out there and to explore. At some point you book your tickets and you start counting the days. 100 days left. 50 days left. 30 days left- and well, what do you know- at some point you will wake up and it will be the day your solo journey starts- and than it kicks in.

Stage 2: Fear
FEAR! Fear for the unknown. Fear of leaving your comfortzone- out in to the big big world. Alone for the first time. Many things go through your head. Am I well prepared? Do I have my passport? Wait, is my passport still valid (you probably checked this a gazillion times already) Do I have enough money for my journey? Will I miss my family and friends? You can feel a bit panicky and somehow the thing you were so excited about feels so scary-

Stage 3: Super duper happy
Even though you are scared, you still take the leap and you go on your journey. And the first few weeks are amazing. Like seriously, freaking amazing. You meet so many cool people from all over the world, you make new friends for life. You see things that look like they come straight out of a Travel magazine and you realize that those pictures in the magazines actually are not photoshopped. It is really THAT beautiful. You are having the time of your life. You go partying with your new friends, you hang out at the beach with them, you go shopping, sporting, hiking- everything that your heart desires, you are doing it. You have never felt so free. You find yourself crying sometimes. For no reason. Just because you are so happy – you have a new appreciation for life. Everything is going so well. A bit too well perhaps?

Stage 4: Loneliness & homesick
And there it is. Those happy tears turn in to sad tears. You start crying again, but this time because you are sad. The people that you have met along the way, they all continue their journey and you find yourself to be alone again. You start missing your parents, your friends, your close ones back at home. You see pictures of them on Facebook, birthdays, weddings, graduationparties- all different things that you are missing. You start to wonder if you made the right choice – should I go back home? What am I doing here? At some point you might even drive yourself crazy a bit and you can feel a bit lost.

Stage 5: Stronger
Trust me, stage 4 is something every traveler will go trough at some point in their travels. Especially if they are on the road for a longer period of time. And it is good. That stage is so essential to you, my dear traveler. It will help you to become stronger. To realize what is important in life and what is less important in life. You might have a new found respect and love for your loved ones back at home but you also realize that traveling is something that just makes you so  happy that you would like to continue. You have this new found confidence because with the breakdowns at stage 4, you have learned so much about yourself. You have learned how to comfort yourself and how to be alone without feeling lonely. Congratulations my fellow solotraveler, you have become stronger (perhaps without even knowing it).

Stage 6: Balanced and happy
Yeah, you are back to being happy. You feel more balanced now that you have gone through stage 4+5 and it really helped you to gain a lot of new insights. You realize that while traveling people will come and go, you will learn how to love and to let to easily. While it will still be hard, you realize that goodbyes are not forever. You will enjoy other peoples company and you will make new friends. You will continue to explore and discover the globe piece by piece and you will make memories for life. At this point you will have grown so much that when you look back at the person who started this journey you can barely recognize this person. You are a better version of your self. You feel balanced and happy.

Stage 7: #bossasstraveller
Congrationlations! You have become a #bossasstraveler. You will have graced all the stages of solotraveling by yourself in a beautiful way. You are strong, independent, a survivor. You have learned that nothing in life is easy but that you are able to cope with everything. You have learned so much about yourself, about your lovedones and what distance can do to your relationships. You will have learned so much from your ‘new’ friends too and you realize that when you are out traveling you can fall in all of the stages above in a random order and that that will be okay too. There will be days where you are lonely and you will miss your friends and family back home- but you also do realize that that feeling of loneliness won’t last forever. You will have ups and downs but you will know how to become the happy traveler you know you are!
Traveling is definitely the best gift you can give your self. Don’t let anything stop you. Don’t fear the unknown, just go for it!

How traveling helped me to kick my depression’s ass

“Not all those who wander are lust, but some of us are, and that is okay’ –

Hey lovely people,

After I wrote a post about dealing with my depression back in October 2015 I was approached by so many people asking me questions about how I did this and it opened a big door of people sharing their story with my. I was honored and felt blessed that so many of you opened up to me and shared their story. If you have missed this post you can read it here: *Click!

Before I continue this post I do would like to say that depression is something that you should take seriously. You should never be ashamed to get and /or ask for help. Traveling has helped me to deal and to beat my depression- how ever, every story is different and everyone is different. This is something that has helped me and I hope it can do the same for you.

So I hope you are ready for my store cause here it is.

I was living a fabulous expat life in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. I had an amazing job, a hot boyfriend, a succesful freelance company. My weekends were filled with trips to tropical destinations, going to the most fancy restaurants, the most luxurious beachclubs in Bali, Langkawi, Thailand. And if I felt like shopping I would go to one of the many malls in KL or fly over to Singapore for a day- Why? Because I could. I had and have a great family and great friends but still- I felt very empty. I knew that I had some issues from my past that I never really got over but I kept running away from them.

I seeked out help and got my self a life coach in Kuala Lumpur. This coach helped me a lot and she made me realize that I really had to get my hands dirty and that I had to work on my issues in order to be able to move forward in life.

After a few sessions with her I realized that I really had to do something because after the sessions I felt great but than the next day I felt sad again. I was living in one of the most vibrant cities in the world and I noticed that I started to spend more time in my appartment. In bed. With the curtains closed. Eating. Drinking. And feeling completely and utterly shitty.13006725_516652785208347_4876792966861348160_n

You can not imagine how it feels to be completely alone in a dark room with your own thoughts. With your dark thoughts- Or perhaps you can relate to my story and you can imagine it. I started to feel shittier by the day and where I was a star at keeping up appearences at some point I even failed at that.

I knew that something had to change. But where did I start? I had no clue.
One thing I had learned when I was younger was that nomatter how shit I felt, that if I went to my ‘happy place’ I instantly would feel a bit better. So I decided to create new happy places. I left my familiar life in KL behind and I started to travel throughout Asia. For once in a very very very long time I did something I had not done in years. I chose me.

Schermafbeelding 2016-04-30 om 21.16.26The beginning was really weird. There were days where I did not know what to do or where to go but I just kept going. I visited cities that were unfamiliar to me and it was freaking scary but I still knew that I had to do it. I forced myself every day to get up and to see something or do something I had never done before and it had a weird but positive effect on me.
Where once I did not want to live anymore, now I started slowely but surely to love life again. I traveled to the most beautiful destinations and saw the most amazing things. I met people. Great people. People with their own story and people that inspired me so much. Every day was a battle. But I became a soldier. A soldier in my own war against my self and I was starting to beat myself in this war. How weird it may sound. I started to become stronger and stronger and I started to appreciate life again.

Things that I remember vividly that helped me was the freedom I felt when I was riding my scooter in Bali. With the wind through my hair, riding amongst the boulevard in Kuta or on a undiscovered path somewhere in Jimbaran- I felt happy. With nothing more with me than my bike and my sunglasses- I just felt so much joy. I remember watching all those beautiufl sunsets that are so magical in Asia. Pink skies. Blue Skies. Purple skies. Where these sunsets real? It all looked so photoshopped.
I remeber a boatride from one island to the other- Again with the wind in my hair, my face- something came over me. I started to cry for no reason, at least that is what I thought at that point. But I was such an emotional wreck- it had to come out at one point.

I cried so many times when I was traveling but I also snapped out of my sad modes quickly as time passed. I realized that I started to love my life again and that life could be so beautiful. It helped me to organize my thoughts and to strengthen myself and to finally start loving myself again.
Traveling definitely was key for me to beat my depression. It did not ‘just heal’ me. But it did help me to realize that there was so much more at this world that was worth living for. It reminded me that I should not give up on myself and that I was worth fighting for. Being alone on the road forced me to confront myself with my thoughts and to process these. It took me months to get there but I felt ready- I went back to Europe and I started therapy. Where traveling gave me great insights on me and my life, I did acknowledge that I needed the guidance to beat this thing entirely. So I started with therapy and it was the best decision I made in my life. And while looking back now I realize that without traveling the world, being a solotraveler, being a wanderluster I might not have reached that point. Or maybe I would have, but not that quickly. I was running away from my past for so long and those months out on the road forced me to be with me. My thoughts. And to work on them.

I can only hope that you can and will have the same experience if you are battling depression. Invissible diseases should be taken incredibly serious. Never feel ashamed of who you are or the thoughts that you have. Never feel too proud to ask for help. You are worth it. You are worth living a life where you are happy. You are worth discovering this beautiful globe and all the wonders that it has to offer. And perhaps one day you will wander the world again, without feeling lost. I know that I do exactly that now.

Why your obsession with Travel means that you are NOT living a mediocre life.

Hey lovely friends!

I came across an article yesterday and I was actually surprised that someone could be so narrow-minded to actually write it. At first I thought that it was not legit and I was waiting for the clue in the end where the author would be like, just kidding- but than I thought- it is not April the first yet so, homeboy must be serious.

What I got from the article is that the author came across a bit frustrated- and do I there to say, perhaps a bit jelly? I know how to get homeboy relaxed- take a chill pill and go traveling! But- I probably can not suggest that since he would not like to step away from his extraordinary life to become a mediocre person with a travel and wanderlust lifestyle.

I will go through his article that you can find *here and I will explain to you why he is oh so very wrong.

ASSUMPTIONS
I have a lot of friends in the travel industry- I am a travel blogger and I have travelblogger friends, photographers, backpackers, flash packers- and I can vow for all of them. Everyone has their own story but I can say that easily 98% of the travelers out there are paying for their own trips or they have worked their traveling buts of to get to a point where they get a lot of sponsored trips. But trust me when I say, those don’t come overnight. You can not just register a website and claim to be a travelblogger. We all work really hard for it, fight for the assignments and we do everything ourselves. Writing articles, taking the pictures, our marketing and own PR- there goes so much more in to being a travelblogger than you might think. And than your assumption that we travelers „ Travel Europe on daddy’s dime’ – well- it just rubs me the wrong way. We work hard for everything that we have, and perhaps the 2% out there that get a sponsored trip from their parents (yes MOM and dad, I mean, why just mention the dad, this is 2016 you know) – why would you not be happy for that person. It means that the parents budget allows them to give this great gift to their kid- a gift that will enrich their lives- a gift that is very generous. Why hate?

IMPACT TRAVELERS MAKE
The author claims that travelers don’t make any impact on the world. This is far from the truth- Travelers do make a lot of impact in so many ways. While traveling you have the chance to explore and discover and through social media you have the opportunity to share what you see.

There have been periods where I was really sad and down and missing a place I once called home, Bali. When I went on Instagram and I searched on the #bali I came across so many beautiful pictures of my island that I instantly felt better- It had a huge impact on me- to see these beautiful visuals as I know for sure that other people do this too. When you miss your hometown, or you want to get inspired- searching for travel pictures will do the trick.

And what about those travelers that are doing charity work along the way? Helping in refugee camps or orphanage homes? Travelers that bring awareness to these kind of things? You don’t think they make an impact? They certainly do!

You have travelbloggers who are allowing us to live vicariously through their pictures- it is amazing for those that perhaps don’t have the funds to go travel now to see what is out their- to get inspired to safe up for a nice trip of their own. I know that before I became a travel blogger I always looked up travel pictures for inspiration and now that I am a travelblogger myself I know that I am doing this for someone else out there too.

What I don’t understand is why you don’t think that traveling is significant. You are talking about the Great Albert Einstein- but what about Christoffel Columbus– He went out there against all the odds determined to find something, to discover something. And so there are many more explorers around the world that made a huge impact in this world. Or what about Vasco de Gama  or Marco Polo? You can not call them not significant to our world.

CALLING TRAVELERS AFRAID
Travelers are afraid to try anything. Really? Travelers who put themselves out there are the bravest people I know. They put themselves out their and they go and conquer their fears. Pretty damn impressive to me. And what if you have a bit of that #YOLO mentality- nothing wrong with that.

Being a travelblogger or a freelancer is such an insecure way of living. Until you hit it big you really have to proof your self. There is so much competition – you have to work your sweet ass of to show why you are the best at what you do. and the work that you create- it matters. And someone that is taking chances to make something of himself in a world where the competition is so big, well homeboys and homegirls, you got some BIG BALLS 🙂

WHAT TRAVEL WILL GIVE YOU
I can tell everyone that travel is the best give you can give yourself. I don’t say that you have to be a full-time traveler for life (but even if you were, nothing wrong with that)- but go out and see the world. Experience life. A desk job won’t give you all those things that traveling does. And also, no, nothing wrong with a desk job. If it fits your lifestyle and your personality and where you are in life and what you want from it, do your thang honey!

Traveling has broaden my horizon in so many ways. It has made me more open to the world. I have learned how to speak several languages, came across so many different cultures, backgrounds, religions and I see beauty in all those different things.

Travel will allow you to learn so much about your self. About others. And if you need to go out there to ‚find your self’ DO IT!

If you are traveling because you are running away from something: DO IT! I did it too- cause you know what- if that is what you need at that point, you should give it to your self. There is nothing wrong with it. Sometimes you need that extra space to clear your mind and that is okay too. Traveling has helped me so many times when I felt stuck in my life. I went on the road, got so many new ideas and a great new perspective on life- it always really helped me to grow.

TO ALL MY FELLOW TRAVELERS
Dear travelers, wanderlust’s, photojournalists, bloggers. Keep doing what you are doing. Your life is far from being mediocre. You inspire me and a million others every day with your beautiful pictures, your blogposts, your vision on life. There is nothing wrong with traveling. I applaud you for taking risks, taking chances, and living your life. I applaud you for exploring, for discovering, for sharing everything that you see. I am thankful of the impact so many of you made on my life and I am sure you have made on thousands of lives across the globe too. You are beautiful, significant, you matter. Your work matters. Your work is art. You are art. You are creative. You create magic. You create happiness. therefor. Let’s get back to work. Your work. Of creating art, sharing our globes wonders and being amazing. Cause you are. And I love that about you.

9 things you will find in every travel addicts appartment

Hey lovelies!

Happy Sunday!
I hope everyone is having an amazing time. I am busy planning my trip to Bergen and Oslo where I will be this week. I will be in Bergen on the 28th and 29th of January and in Oslo on the 30th and 31st of January so if you are there too, send me a message and we will meet up!

As a travel addict, a wanderluster, a global nomad, I travel the entire world and am hardly at home, but when I am at home, I also like to come back to a place that really feels home, and that symbolizes who I am. And my passion is a big part of who I am so let me share some stuff you will find in my appartement. And if you are as big as a travelfreak as I am, you will have similar stuff in your place!

1: SOMETHING THAT SYMBOLIZES WHERE YOU ARE FROM

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

I am a Dutchie. I was born in the beautiful city of Delft and I am really proud of that. Delft is a lovely city.  I don’t live in Holland anymore but I like to carry something with me that is ‘typical’ dutch. These wooden clogs are so ‘Dutch’- really, it can not get any more Dutch than this. And of course Holland is way more than wooden clogs, windmills and cheese, but for me, these wooden shoes mean a lot. They are small and portable. The key chain is attached to my keys normally so I carry those around where ever I go, and the red clogs are next to my computer in my work space at home.

2: A GLOBE

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Globes, oh how I love globes. I think every traveler has something with Globes. Haha. I am quite obsessed with them, so much that it is even in my brands name. I picked this little globe up in Singapore, actually at the airport.  I was shopping around for books and make up and I ended up buying this globe. I thought it was very cute and a perfect size to put in my work space as well.

3:  MAPS, MAPS, MAPS!

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

To every city I go to I collect the official ‘tourist’ maps. I think these are quite fun. They show everything in a very clear way and you see how to go to all the attractions and city highlights. I love to write on my maps and circle the places where I have been and I take these maps back home as a memory of my trip- Is this weird? Am I the only one who does this? 🙂

4: HOTEL TOILETRIES

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Another thing I like to do, oh my god, I feel like a hoarder now, haha, is to collect the little shampoo’s and conditioners. These minitures are always so cute and I love to bring them back home after I have stayed in a hotel. In my bathroom I have a big vase with perhaps 100 mini’s. I think it looks cute and it is again another symbol of my traveling lifestyle.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

5: LONELY PLANETS

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Lonely planets are amazing travel guides for the passionate traveler. These books are great for planning your trip accordingly and getting all the right information. For almost every one of my trips I have bought a Lonely Planet to get great tips and advices.

6: TRAVEL MAGAZINES

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Travel magazines– oh how much I adore them. I buy them in every country I go too, even if it is in a language that I don’t speak. These above are all in English-or Dutch- languages that I both speak. I love them. I love to read them, get inspired- they are always so inspiring

7: TRAVEL BOOKS

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Travel books- I have so many of them. I have an entire wall decorated with books and most of them are travel books. I love to read about countries that I have been to, never been to, or planing to go to. I get so much inspiration out of them. I am sure that if you are walking in the apartment of a wanderluster, you will find at least 10 different travel books!

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAWhere ever I go, I always try to pick something of that reminds me of my travels to that certain place in that certain time. The painting I have bought from a street artist in Rome and the globe I have bought in Singapore. Actually, my entire appartment is filled with memories that I have collected during my travels.

9: A WORLDMAP

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

The one thing that you must have in every apartment is a worldmap. What else can we use to plan our next trips, right travelers? OH- and the map on the left? I will explain more about that one tomorrow…

What kind of travel related subjects do you have at your place?

xoxo

Tomorrow starts today- Goals, wishes and dreams.

Hey lovelies,

How are you doing? I have been doing great! I was discussing my new years eve plans with my friend when he asked; “So, when we get to the first of January ’16, what will your goals and plans be”.
And this made me think. Not about my new years resolutions but about my goals and plans in general.Schermafbeelding 2015-09-27 om 20.26.07

Why should we wait until the first day of the new year to give our selves a fresh start, a clean slate. Why do we need that 1-1-16 so much that we allow ourselves to continue with our current habits instead of saying:
“TOMORROW STARTS TODAY”

I thought about what tomorrow starts today would mean to me and I came up with these 15 things that I would like to accomplish before December the 11th 2016. You don’t have to have the ‘biggest’ goals, you can think of small things too, just things you would like to do and accomplish for your self. If you want to lose weight or perhaps stop smoking, why don’t you start with that NOW. Or at least, start with making a plan on how to do that….NOW!

For now, my 15 thingies:

  1.  CREATE MY ULTIMATE TRAVEL BUCKET LIST
    – I have traveled a lot but there is still so much of the world I have not seen yet. I would like to create my ultimate travel bucket list with places I have not seen yet so I have a better vision of what kind of trips to plan for the up and coming year!
  2. ACTUALLY TAKE ONE OF THE TRIPS FROM MY ULTIMATE TRAVEL BUCKET LIST
-I am not a fulltime travelblogger anymore. I actually have a fulltime job too. So combined with my blog I actually have 2 fulltime jobs, and I love both. Therefor, it is not realistic to take 500 trips haha. But I would like to take (at least one) of my travel bucket list, and make it happen!
  3. CREATE AN REALISTIC EXERCISE SCHEDULE
Excercising is always a great idea. Even if you are in shape it will not hurt to take good care of your body. I have always loved to excersise only in all fairness, during my period of depression I did not really go to the gym anymore.  Click here for the article And I did gain weight so my goal is to lose this weight in a normal and healthy way. Not by starving myself but by creating a exercise schedule. A realistic one. Sometimes people tend to want things too fast. I understand that you want to lose weight, but going to the gym (when you are a starter) 7 times a week is not the best idea.
  4. GET MORE KNOWLEDGE ON EATING HEALTHIER
I would love to learn more about food. They say that you are what you eat. Well, that I am a box of oreo cookies. Haha…. I think that that is enough said.
  5. TRAVEL TO ICELAND
Oh northern lights, where are you? Okay, realistically, there is not a really big chance that I will actually get to see the northern lights during my trip to iceland but hey, a girl can dream right. It is not really something I can control. However, northernlights or not, I really want to see and discover Iceland!
  6. READ ONE BOOK A MONTH
I used to read so much. Now I am always on my phone. And yes, YOU ARE TOO! I love to read tho, and I want to start reading more again. Perhaps before going to bed. It is much healthier to stare at my book pages than at my phone before sleeping.
  7. VISIT AT LEAST 25 NEW DESIGN/BOUTIQUE HOTELS FOR MY WEBSITE
Since I won’t be traveling fulltime due to my job, I will still travel on a monthly bases. 25 hotels a year is an average of 2,1 (haha)- a month. That is very manageable.
  8. MAKE MY (what now still is my secret project) VERY SUCCESSFUL
Okay, more about this project on Sunday.
  9. LEARN HOW TO DO A HANDSTAND
Yes, weird goal right. I always just wanted to be able to do this but I was always to afraid to try because I was afraid that I would fall and break my neck. I know, that is so random right. But this will be the year where I can finally make a handstand (or come close-ish to it:)
  10. VISIT 10 CITIES I HAVE NEVER BEEN TO BEFORE
10 cities is quite a lot..but I really want to do this. The world is beautiful and I want to see it all.
  11. REACH 15K FOLLOWERS ON INSTAGRAM
For some this might be a weird goal, but you have to remember, as a blogger your social media accounts are very important. Some bloggers have over 100K followers or some even 1M. Impressive, yes. Fair? Not always. Of course some people really got these followers in an honest way. They create content that others like to follow but others also buy their followers. It is actually quite obvious because when you click on some accounts you see that they are actually spam accounts. I do not know why people do that. I might grow ‘slower’ than others, but my followers are real and I like to interact with them. Therefor, reaching 15K will be a big accomplishment for me!
  12. GET 5 ARTICLES POST IN PRINT (MAGAZINES/NEWSPAPERS)
I used to write for several magazines when I was living in Asia but I have noticed that I have been freelancing so little lately and I think it is actually quite sad. I consider myself to be a good writer and it truly is my passion. I would like to start to publish my work in print again, of course when I get the chance to do so!
  13. SPEND MORE TIME WITH MY FAMILY AND CLOSE FRIENDS
This year has been a crazy hectic year. I have moved to Antwerp and I live my single girl life here (what also has been quite the adjustment)- I am not able to see my family and friends a lot because they live all over the world. Literally. But I would like to invest my (very rare) free time on spending more time with them and really make more of an effort.
  14. EVALUATE EVERY MONTH ON HOW I AM DOING
I think it is important to keep track of your goals and dreams. I would like to take the time monthly to look back on the previous month and to see how I am doing
  15. VISIT ISTANBUL TOGETHER WITH MY MOM
For some reason we keep postponing this trip. But this year I would like to make it happen and I would like to visit this beautiful city, with my beautiful mom.

What are your goals, dreams and things to do/accomplish?

xoxo

4. @MURADOSMANNSchermafbeelding 2015-11-15 om 19.58.38Oh my, where to start with this account. This account is everything. #relationshipgoals, #travelgoals, #awesomepeople.
If you have about 3,5 million followers on IG you must be doing something right, right?
They have started the trend where couples take pictures, holding hands, where you only see the girl from the back and the guys hand holding her. The pictures focus more on the view than on the people in it. Well okay, in their case it is a bit different because Nataly is always as equally stunning as the background but still. They visit the most beautiful places and Murad is definitely a fantastic photographer. He captures his wife and the background in the most beautiful way and that truly makes his Instagram account an inspiring one!

This Australian beauty of only 20 years old with currently 1 million IG followers has truly a gorgeous gallery. Her Instagram is not just about traveling but she posts pictures of herself doing yoga and eating healthy meals too. This fun and bubbly girl inspires me in many ways. Even though we are almost a decade apart in age (omg, I feel so old now) I think she is a good example of how to live your life in your twenties. She has this young, wild and free vibe all over her and she comes across as a happy and strong individual who tries to live her life to the fullest! Girl, you are doing an amazing job! And for those that are not following her yet, visit her page, you will love her!

Follow her travels at her Instagram or check out her blog!

I hope you got a lot of inspiration throughout his post and by visiting these amazing gallery’s. Who are your favorite travelbloggers and who’s IG account do you love to visit?
Let me know! I am very curious !

If the Eiffel Tower could talk…

12243284_463226587217634_3289609584534959856_nIf the Eiffel tower could talk, I am sure she could tell us many beautiful stories. Stories of everything she had ever seen. Stories of every  marriage proposal that has been done in front of her by lovebirds. Stories of people taking selfies with her because they were struck by her beauty.

If the Eiffel Tower could talk she would tell us about the beauty of her city. About all the little streets and corners that Paris has. About the beautiful architecture, the cool Parisian hotspots, restaurants, bars, clubs. She would tell us about all the musea and about her special bond with the Mona Lisa. She would tell us about the beauty of its people and about the beauty of her country.

If the Eiffel Tower could talk she would tell us how, every night, she does her best to shine bright in her light show and every night she gives us her all so we can enjoy her. She would do her best to contribute to our lovely Paris memories.

But after yesterday, even if the Eiffel Tower could talk, she would decide not too. She would not be able to talk because her heart is aching and breaking. She is devastated. The lights from her lightshow turn in to tears. She can only cry. For her city, for her people, for the visitors, for humanity.

My dear Eiffel Tower- You are the reason why we call Paris the city of lights, the city of love. You are beautiful and incredibly strong. I hope you will keep being the light in the city of lights and don’t let it turn in to the darkness. I hope you can be the light on a day where everyone probably needs you the most. I hope you will inspire us to stick together and not to fall apart. To unite and be strong and beautiful like you are. Don’t let our hearts fill with hate towards the ignorant ones.  My beloved Eiffel Tower, I hope your broken heart will heal again and that you will decide to talk and tell us that everything will be okay. Because the only one that can do that for Paris, is you. Your people need you. Your people love you.

Review: The Generator in Dublin

Hey lovelies,

Dublin is an awesome city, definitely worth visiting and when you go to Dublin you of course need a place to stay. No worries, I got the perfect place for you that is suitable for everyone no matter what your budget is. The Generator in Dublin is part of the Generator Hostels with currently 11 hostels in 10 different cities through Europe.

I had the pleasure to visit the hostel in London last year: *Click here for review! and this year I thought it was time to visit another one. I chose the hostel in Dublin and this truly was a great decision. For me, I don’t have a lot of experiences with hostels but I always have this scary image of it. Dirty rooms, shitty beds, and nasty showers. At least, that is what I have heard of my traveling friends who actually stay in hostels. This might be a bit narrow minded of me but it does influence me. Therefor, when I discovered the Generator Hostels I was so pleasantly surprised how beautiful, clean and amazing it actually is.
The cater to everyone wishes with different roomtypes, but that will follow in a bit.

LOCATION:Schermafbeelding 2015-11-08 om 21.30.21 The Generator Dublin is in a very good location. It is easy to reach rom the airport, you can take a bus directly from the airport to the Hostel. The Airlink 747 is your link to the city center. You can get on the Airlink express from outside both airport terminals every 15 mins for only €6 single or €10 return. You need to get off at Ushers Quay.  From Ushers Quay the hostel is just a short walk away. You have to cross a bridge and walk for approximately 5-7 minutes and you will reach the hostel!

You can also take a cab from the airport what will cost you about 25-30 euro’s for a single trip and it will take you about 25-30 minutes, depending on the traffic.

The hostel is also perfectly located to a lot of Dublin Hotspots. You can walk almost everywhere. From the shopping street to one of the distillery’s or famous Pubs, the Gen is at the perfect location!
Also as a lady traveler I must say that it is in a very safe area as well. I walked back from the city center to the hostel in the middle of the night. It took about 15 minutes (this can totally be faster normally but I just walk slow) and even though I ran in to some drunk people, they are totally in their own little world and I was not bothered at all.

ROOMTYPES:
As I said, the Generator caters to all your wishes. For the budget traveler, there are dorms where you can stay and the prices currently start 8,50 euro and you can get a private room from 39 euro’s.

And the cool thing is that they even have a room with a jacuzzi for the female travelers!
I mean, this sounds more like a luxury hotel now, doesn’t it?

BREAKFAST:
The Generator does offer a breakfast service at a really cheap price. The breakfast is basic but it has everything you need to fill your tummy. Break, eggs, cheese, yoghurt, fruit, coffee and juice. If you would like to have a bit more of an extensive breakfast you can always go to the Cafe to enjoy a wider variety of food and drinks. This is a la carte and not included in the standard breakfast package but definitely worth it.

THE ROOMS I HAVE STAYED IN:
My first night I have stayed in a private room that could accommodate up to 3 people. There was a single bed and a double bed and the room comes with an ensuite bathroom and I even had a small balcony.

The room was quite spacious and very clean. I also liked the design. The wooden furniture created a cool vibe and the Cloud Mural was pretty cool too!

This room is perfect for solo travelers or people who are on a business trip but still are on a budget. You have the privacy of your own room but if you like company you can go to one of the hang out areas and meet new friends!

Schermafbeelding 2015-11-08 om 21.16.57The second night I stayed in a mixed dorm room. Mixed dorms are always a big adventure for me but what I have noticed after visiting my 3rd Generator Hostel (Londen and Copenhagen were the other two) is that The Generator Hostel really attracts a cool crowd. Trendy Travelers that like to stay in a trendy place. I have met some great people during my stay and I am sure that if you will chose to stay in the Gen too that you will make some awesome new friends too!

Both rooms were incredibly clean. The beds were comfy too! In the dorm I also had an ensuite bathroom only here I had to share it with all my roommates. But sharing a bathroom with 8 people is still okay! The rooms were really spacious. Good thing: you have your own space underneath your bed where you can keep your luggage so you don’t have to store this in the middle of the room. Of course some travelers still do this. Haha. But at least you have the opportunity to store your luggage and to keep your valuables safe because you can lock your storage with your own lock!

Would I recommend this hostel?
I would definitely recommend this hostel to all the travelers. From female travelers, couple travelers, businesspeople or just the average backpacker. This hostel will be the perfect place for you to stay.
The people working in the hostel are super friendly and very helpful. They will give you great tips on what to do, visit and they will make sure that your trip to Dublin is unforgettable!
From private rooms, to mixed dorms. From one of the many events that they organize to the perfect location. Yes, The Gen in Dublin is definitely the place to be on your next visit to Dublin!
