Why your obsession with Travel means that you are NOT living a mediocre life.

Hey lovely friends!

I came across an article yesterday and I was actually surprised that someone could be so narrow-minded to actually write it. At first I thought that it was not legit and I was waiting for the clue in the end where the author would be like, just kidding- but than I thought- it is not April the first yet so, homeboy must be serious.

What I got from the article is that the author came across a bit frustrated- and do I there to say, perhaps a bit jelly? I know how to get homeboy relaxed- take a chill pill and go traveling! But- I probably can not suggest that since he would not like to step away from his extraordinary life to become a mediocre person with a travel and wanderlust lifestyle.

I will go through his article that you can find *here and I will explain to you why he is oh so very wrong.

I have a lot of friends in the travel industry- I am a travel blogger and I have travelblogger friends, photographers, backpackers, flash packers- and I can vow for all of them. Everyone has their own story but I can say that easily 98% of the travelers out there are paying for their own trips or they have worked their traveling buts of to get to a point where they get a lot of sponsored trips. But trust me when I say, those don’t come overnight. You can not just register a website and claim to be a travelblogger. We all work really hard for it, fight for the assignments and we do everything ourselves. Writing articles, taking the pictures, our marketing and own PR- there goes so much more in to being a travelblogger than you might think. And than your assumption that we travelers „ Travel Europe on daddy’s dime’ – well- it just rubs me the wrong way. We work hard for everything that we have, and perhaps the 2% out there that get a sponsored trip from their parents (yes MOM and dad, I mean, why just mention the dad, this is 2016 you know) – why would you not be happy for that person. It means that the parents budget allows them to give this great gift to their kid- a gift that will enrich their lives- a gift that is very generous. Why hate?

The author claims that travelers don’t make any impact on the world. This is far from the truth- Travelers do make a lot of impact in so many ways. While traveling you have the chance to explore and discover and through social media you have the opportunity to share what you see.

There have been periods where I was really sad and down and missing a place I once called home, Bali. When I went on Instagram and I searched on the #bali I came across so many beautiful pictures of my island that I instantly felt better- It had a huge impact on me- to see these beautiful visuals as I know for sure that other people do this too. When you miss your hometown, or you want to get inspired- searching for travel pictures will do the trick.

And what about those travelers that are doing charity work along the way? Helping in refugee camps or orphanage homes? Travelers that bring awareness to these kind of things? You don’t think they make an impact? They certainly do!

You have travelbloggers who are allowing us to live vicariously through their pictures- it is amazing for those that perhaps don’t have the funds to go travel now to see what is out their- to get inspired to safe up for a nice trip of their own. I know that before I became a travel blogger I always looked up travel pictures for inspiration and now that I am a travelblogger myself I know that I am doing this for someone else out there too.

What I don’t understand is why you don’t think that traveling is significant. You are talking about the Great Albert Einstein- but what about Christoffel Columbus– He went out there against all the odds determined to find something, to discover something. And so there are many more explorers around the world that made a huge impact in this world. Or what about Vasco de Gama  or Marco Polo? You can not call them not significant to our world.

Travelers are afraid to try anything. Really? Travelers who put themselves out there are the bravest people I know. They put themselves out their and they go and conquer their fears. Pretty damn impressive to me. And what if you have a bit of that #YOLO mentality- nothing wrong with that.

Being a travelblogger or a freelancer is such an insecure way of living. Until you hit it big you really have to proof your self. There is so much competition – you have to work your sweet ass of to show why you are the best at what you do. and the work that you create- it matters. And someone that is taking chances to make something of himself in a world where the competition is so big, well homeboys and homegirls, you got some BIG BALLS 🙂

I can tell everyone that travel is the best give you can give yourself. I don’t say that you have to be a full-time traveler for life (but even if you were, nothing wrong with that)- but go out and see the world. Experience life. A desk job won’t give you all those things that traveling does. And also, no, nothing wrong with a desk job. If it fits your lifestyle and your personality and where you are in life and what you want from it, do your thang honey!

Traveling has broaden my horizon in so many ways. It has made me more open to the world. I have learned how to speak several languages, came across so many different cultures, backgrounds, religions and I see beauty in all those different things.

Travel will allow you to learn so much about your self. About others. And if you need to go out there to ‚find your self’ DO IT!

If you are traveling because you are running away from something: DO IT! I did it too- cause you know what- if that is what you need at that point, you should give it to your self. There is nothing wrong with it. Sometimes you need that extra space to clear your mind and that is okay too. Traveling has helped me so many times when I felt stuck in my life. I went on the road, got so many new ideas and a great new perspective on life- it always really helped me to grow.

Dear travelers, wanderlust’s, photojournalists, bloggers. Keep doing what you are doing. Your life is far from being mediocre. You inspire me and a million others every day with your beautiful pictures, your blogposts, your vision on life. There is nothing wrong with traveling. I applaud you for taking risks, taking chances, and living your life. I applaud you for exploring, for discovering, for sharing everything that you see. I am thankful of the impact so many of you made on my life and I am sure you have made on thousands of lives across the globe too. You are beautiful, significant, you matter. Your work matters. Your work is art. You are art. You are creative. You create magic. You create happiness. therefor. Let’s get back to work. Your work. Of creating art, sharing our globes wonders and being amazing. Cause you are. And I love that about you.

What was your fave travel destination of ’15?

HOTEL REVIEW: Hotel Vondel – Amsterdam

Hey lovelies!

I have visited Hotel Vondel during the Xmas season and I absolutely loved it! Going to Amsterdam soon? Than I have the best place for you to stay.

Hotel Vondel is a beautiful 4 star hotel in the midst of the city center.

Hotel Vondel is located in the best place possible. It is walking distance to the very famous Leidse Plein where you can find numerous hip and trendy hotspots and a lot of stores that will make your heart beat faster. From H&M to Lush, from Karen Millen to Shoebaloo- the area around Leidse Plein has it all.

It is also just walking distance from the main shopping street „Kalverstraat’ and if you want to discover the way the true Amsterdam fashion chick shops you can also walk quite easily to the nine streets/ negenstraatjes. http://www.theninestreets.com/

What I really liked about the location is that it is in a peaceful side street of a very busy and hectic place in Amsterdam. This way you can escape all the hectic by staying in a hotel in a beautiful and serene environment but you can be in the hip and happening crowdy places within a 5 minute walk, so basically you will really have the best of both worlds! What also will take your breath away are the beautiful 18th century townhouses the hotel is created in + the fact that the hotel is very close to the great heart of Amsterdam „Vondel Park’

How to get there: Are you an international traveler and visiting the beautiful city of Amsterdam and you are planning your stay in hotel Vondel you will probably arrive at Schiphol airport.

It is quite easy to reach the hotel from the airport and you can do it according to your own budget:

Take the direct train from Schiphol Airport to Amsterdam Central Station- this will take you about 20 minutes. From the central station you can take the tram (1,2 or 5) to Leidse Plein. From here it is only a 5 minute walk. From the airport to the tramstop Leidse plein will be approximately around 7 euro’s (train + tram)

You can also take a taxi to the hotel and this will also take you about 20 minutes. The fare will be a bit higher and it will be between 40 and 50 euro.

Hotel Vondel has 10 roomtypes as you can see below. I had the pleasure to stay in the Small  Double Room!

  • Souterrain
  • Double Small
  • Standard
  • Executive Twin or Double
  • Junior Suite
  • Apartment
  • Loft Suite
  • Triple
  • Family Room
  • Family Suite

To be totally honest, I did not understand the term ‚small double room’. The room was anything but small. It was actually quite spacious and lovely.

Upon entering what I directly noticed where the high ceilings. I was located ont he 4th (top floor) and could enjoy very high ceilings which I absolutely adored. Directly on my left side there was a closet where the safe was kept, the coffee and tea corner was placed and it offered some storage room. On the right side you also had a closet where you could find the mini bar as well. The mini bar is upon payments and the coffee and tea are complimentary.

Next to the minibar you had the flat screen TV attached to the wall, directly in front of the bed which was placed under a very big window. So when you are back in your room after a long day of exploring Amsterdam and you just want to kick back and relax and watch the telly, this is perfectly possible.

What I also loved about the bed being under a window is the possibility of waking up with the morning light in stead of just putting on some lights in your room.

The room also had an office space where you could find a desk and a chair which is perfect for business people, bloggers, journalists- everyone who just needs to do some work during their stay- the Vondel Hotel has got you covered!

Lovely details of this boutique hotel: The hotel (and the rooms) are decorated with beautiful small artsy details. My room had lovely paintings and it really gave that special touch to the room!

The bathroom was gorge! I love grey tones and this bathroom just had all the shades of grey that you need (yes, forget about 50 shades of grey, these greytones are much better:) It had a bathtub with a rain dance shower and even a sky window. So when you are taking a shower you can watch the stars (or well, search for the stars at least 🙂

The bathroom also came with a hairdryer and products from The Spa Collection to enjoy your showers even more!

I love a hotel that pays attention to the small details. I thought it was pretty cool that the bath mat was branded with the VONDEL brand (see picture) and that there was a plaid on the hotel bed. A plaid, how awesome is that? I have stayed in over 200 hotels but I have never seen a plain on the bed. This gives it that ‘home away from home feeling’ and that is magnificent.

What I always find really important to review during my reviews are the hotel staff. I can tell you, I have had some really bad experiences, where the hotel maybe is really nice but the staff definitely is not. That was not the case at Hotel Vondel. Here the staff are as kind and as beautiful as the hotel itself. The Dutch hospitality was yet again proven to be one of the best globally. Examples: The receptionist was very friendly and helpful and gave me a lot of information about the city center and which highlights were worth visiting. She did not have to look up any of the information, she was really knowledge and could tell me everything without any hesitation.

Another example was that when my internet on my phone did not work anymore because I needed a new log in, I asked the head waitress where I could find a new log in code and she told me that she would get in for me at the reception. I immediately said that I would get it my self and I thanked her for her answer and she said that she would gladly get it for me and that I should continue to enjoy my breakfast- these little things are really important. It immediately made me feel like a valued guest and that she put the needs of her guests first. And that is what you are looking for when you are on a trip, no? You want to relax, don’t want to think about anything. And when a problem occurs, even if it is a small one, that you have staff available that will fix it directly for you is just great. A big thumbs up for the lovely staff! Oh, plus everyone is all smilles, which I adore. How often do you see staff that just look cranky 24/7. Here everyone was always smiling which gave me a very pleasant feeling. When I was taking pictures in the restaurant I ran in to, I think he was one of the cleaners, and he directly showed a lot of interest in my work and asked me if he should help with taking the pictures- I thought that that was really kind of him!

Breakfast is served downstairs at the ground floor in restaurant JOOST! The breakfast is served in a really beautiful area. I love how artsy the hotel is and that even the restaurant has many beautiful details (see pictures)

The breakfast was really versatile. You had a buffet that offered many different things. From different breads and pastries to yoghurt and fresh fruit. There are also other toppings you can put in your yogh and my fave obviously are sprinkles. I love any hotel that offers sprinkles at their breakfast ! Bacon and eggs are also on the menu and they offered different kind of cheeses.

Besides the buffet they also offer a menu where you can chose your yummy meals from. I chose a waffle with some whipped cream to start my day with a smile. I put some of the delicious sprinkles on it as well.

The hotel has a beautiful city garden where in the summer they also serve their breakfast. It is amazing to find a garden in the city center of Amsterdam and that this hotel has it just makes it that more special! The hotel also has it’s own restaurant called JOOST and the food there is super tasty. The menu has Dutch specialties that you can indulge in but also offers a versatile menu so you can take a culinary trip down to food heaven! The breakfast is also served in restaurant JOOST!

The Vondel Hotel is for many different people. I can recommend it to all the luxury lovers and expats who appreciate a good boutique hotel but also to the ordinary traveler. There is nothing ordinary about this hotel but I can guarentee you that it will make you feel extraordinary. Due to the several rooms there is a room that will fit every budget. The room is perfect for people that want to explore Amsterdam city and perhaps even the night/clubbing life because it is so close to the Leidse Plein with a lot of cool clubs and cafe’s. It is also perfect for business travelers due to the location and the comfortable rooms that cater to all your business related wishes. (you have your own office space with a desk available). Because they also offer family and tripple rooms the hotel is also perfect for a family get away or perhaps even a couples weekend where you want to explore Amsterdam with your best friends!

HOTEL REVIEW: Radisson Blu Plaza Hotel Oslo

Hey lovelies,

I went to Oslo for my birthday weekend and one of the hotels I have stayed in is the Radisson Blu Plaza Hotel Oslo! This beautiful 4 star hotel is in the midst of the center of Oslo and definitely worth visiting! Oslo is such a great city to visit because there is so much to see and to do and if you are looking for the perfect place to stay, a place with beautiful rooms, fantastic views, a sauna and a pool and oh wait, your own SKYBAR, The Oslo Plaza is definitely the place for you!

The view from the hotel room on the 27th floor.

When you arrive at Gardermoen Airport you can take a train to Oslo city center. You have the standard train and the fast train that will go to “Oslo Sentralstasjon”. The hotel is located in the city center of Oslo and very conveniently almost directly next to the Central Station of Oslo as you can see in the map below. From the Central Station it is just a 5 minute walk and therefor very easy to reach. Schermafbeelding 2015-11-15 om 21.53.11The hotel is located in a nice area and also a 5 minute walk away from a shopping mall!
The Oslo City Mall is definitely worth visiting and if you are there, go to the Froyo Shop on the first floor for some delish Froyo!

Oslo Plaza

I had the pleasure of staying on the 27th floor so you can imagine how great my view was.
I could see all over Oslo and it was just magnificent.  I stayed in room 2703 and I have to say, the room was quite spacious.Schermafbeelding 2015-11-15 om 22.32.38A closer look to what I was actually seeing: Schermafbeelding 2015-11-15 om 22.32.49
SO HOW DOES THE ROOM LOOK YOU MIGHT ASK? – let me try to paint you a picture:
When you enter the room you will see some cabinets at your left side where you can place your luggage and hang your coats. There is also a full-size mirror which is great if you want to do a last minute outfit check before leaving the room. On the right side you have a door that will lead you to your bathroom. My bathroom also came with a bathtub which was great.

The bathroom at the Radisson Blu Plaza hotel!

Directly next to the bathroom door on the left side you had your ‘working corner’ where you could easily sit with your laptop at the desk provided working on your website like I did, or just on some other business.

Radisson Blu Plaza Room view

Next to your ‘office’ area you will find the bed. The amazingly comfy bed! The room also has a big screen T.V if you decide to have a nice night in. On the left side of the bed, directly next to window you have a nice sofa where you can relax and enjoy the magnificent view!

Oslo Plaza

The room also has a minibar filled with a lot of goodies:

Close up Mini Bar at the Radisson Oslo Plaza Hotel in Norway
The minibar at the Radisson Blu Plaza in Oslo

A big plus, there is a mini coffee making machine so before heading down to breakfast you can already make your own coffee in your room. For me this is such a luxury because I honestly can not function without a cup of coffee in the morning. Haha!

The hotel room at the Oslo Plaza

The pool at the Oslo Plaza

The hotel also comes with its own sauna and pool. A perfect way to start your day is to swim and enjoy some quality time in the sauna. The Oslo Plaza offers both. What I thought was really cool is that in the sauna you will again have an magnificent view. Even in the sauna it’s self you have this small window that ables you to look outside and enjoy the beauty of Oslo- if that is not amazing I do not know what is.

The view from the sauna

Also in both the sauna area as in the pool area the entire space is been surrounded by big windows so where ever you go, you can enjoy the gorgeousness of Oslo by just peeking out of your window!

BREAKFAST:OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAAs a foodlover the breakfast for me is very important. Also, the breakfast is your most important meal of the day so I always take extra notice when I do these reviews on what hotels are actually offering. They offered several pastries like croissants and chocolate buns but also normal bread.OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAWhat really stood out for me was the different kind of fish they served at breakfast. I think eating fish at breakfast is a typically Norwegian thing. Even though I love fish it is not for me in the morning, however a little bit of smoked salmon could never hurt so I sticked with the salmon and some blue cheese.OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

The make your own salad and fruit bar!

They also offered a make your own salad bar where they provided you with fresh greens and veggies and all kinds of oils and dressings.

If you are more in the mood for some yogh or some milk with some fresh fruit, have no fear! That is possible too. Cool fact; they had all kinds of milk. From soya milk, to ‘normal’ milk to lactose free milk, it was all available!

Tea time!
The Cereal Bar!

If you are just in the mood for some cereal with seeds and nuts, you can create your own delishhhh bowl!

There were also hot meals available. From noodles to scrambled eggs, warm veggies to beans and potatoes.

The Radisson Blu Plaza Oslo has it’s own Sky Bar and it is fantastic. De decor is in blue, grey tones and it just fits the city of Oslo so well. Come here to enjoy one of their fantastic cocktails while looking over the City !

Sky Bar Oslo

If you are in to luxury and beauty than this is the hotel for you. This hotel will cater to all your wishes. Besides having an amazing room with probably the comfiest bed you will ever sleep in, the hotel also comes with a pool, a sauna and even it’s own sky bar. The hotel is perfectly located and very easy to reach. I would recommend this hotel to business people, friends traveling and couples.

They have started the trend where couples take pictures, holding hands, where you only see the girl from the back and the guys hand holding her. The pictures focus more on the view than on the people in it. Well okay, in their case it is a bit different because Nataly is always as equally stunning as the background but still. They visit the most beautiful places and Murad is definitely a fantastic photographer. He captures his wife and the background in the most beautiful way and that truly makes his Instagram account an inspiring one!

Girl Solo Travels – 5 tips from a female travelblogger to start with solo travels!

Hey lovelies,

This post is for all my ladies out there. Yea you girl! I wrote this post specially for you because I want to inspire you. I want to trigger something inside you to do the thing that I love to do the most: TRAVEL!

If you have never solo traveled before but you want to see if it might be something for you too take these 5 steps and allow me to guide you through it!

Before packing your backpack and traveling to the other side of the world, go out there and test the waters a bit. See if solo traveling is something for you. Pick a destination close to home so it will still feel same for you, jump on a plane and just go there. Start with just a long weekend and see how you feel. Of course you can not compare 3-5 days with 3-5 months but you will get a good feeling and vibe of the ‘traveling alone’ part. Based on that feeling you can decide if that is something you would like to pursue a bit more.

When you are out there on the road you often don’t have the luxury of ‘planning’ everything in advance. For your first solo travel I will definitely recommend you to at least plan everything you can plan about this trip in advance. Your planning skills will be well tested while being out on the road so let’s see how you do this. When looking for an accommodation read online reviews. Not everyone has the luxury to stay in expensive hotels but there are really good and affordable hostels out there as well. The one that I have recently stayed in, The Generator in Dublin was amazing. They even only had an all female dorm room what creates a safer environment if you are a lady traveler out on your first solo travel. Chose an accommodation and just go for it!

Have you researched the city that you are going too?  Do you know where to go to once you got there. Do you know what you want to do when you visit the city? Perhaps a museum or a shopping street. Get a map and a notebook and write down all the things you want to do and how to get there. If you are prepared you will feel more comfortable with your self and your solo traveling skills. Of course you do not have to do everything that you have on your schedule but it often helps when you have an idea on what you can do and how to go there.

Spontaniousity- is that even a word? I do not thinks so. Haha. But you get my point right. I recommended you to make a planning in pointer 3 because what I often notice when I talk to first time solo travelers is that they go to a destination and they don’t have a clue on what to actually do there and than the fear kicks in and they feel unsafe. If you have a planning and you know what you could do, it will give you some relieve. Often what you will have during solo traveling, is the pleasure of meeting random people. Be open to that and let things happen. If someone invites you to join for an event later say YES! Who know what kind of great experiences you will have and what kind of new people you will meet!
*Please always be careful though, when someone invites you to their home and you don’t know that person well, don’t do it. Always trust your gut and your instinct. But when it is at a public event, a cafe or a bar, do it! You will be pleasantly surprised.

Always be safe. Solotraveling is fun, not scary. It will allow you to get to know your self in ways you never could when you just stay in your own save little environment back home. You will develop some serious James Bond’ish skills and you will learn how to take care of your self because you are the only person out there that takes care of you on your trips. Always trust your instincts and when something does not feel right, don’t do it.

If you follow these 5 steps I am sure you will have a great first impression on what solo traveling is and feels like. I am so curious on how you will experience your first solo experience. Have you ever solo traveled before? How was that for you?

Review: The Generator in Dublin

Hey lovelies,

Dublin is an awesome city, definitely worth visiting and when you go to Dublin you of course need a place to stay. No worries, I got the perfect place for you that is suitable for everyone no matter what your budget is. The Generator in Dublin is part of the Generator Hostels with currently 11 hostels in 10 different cities through Europe.

I had the pleasure to visit the hostel in London last year: *Click here for review! and this year I thought it was time to visit another one. I chose the hostel in Dublin and this truly was a great decision. For me, I don’t have a lot of experiences with hostels but I always have this scary image of it. Dirty rooms, shitty beds, and nasty showers. At least, that is what I have heard of my traveling friends who actually stay in hostels. This might be a bit narrow minded of me but it does influence me. Therefor, when I discovered the Generator Hostels I was so pleasantly surprised how beautiful, clean and amazing it actually is.
The cater to everyone wishes with different roomtypes, but that will follow in a bit.

LOCATION:Schermafbeelding 2015-11-08 om 21.30.21 The Generator Dublin is in a very good location. It is easy to reach rom the airport, you can take a bus directly from the airport to the Hostel. The Airlink 747 is your link to the city center. You can get on the Airlink express from outside both airport terminals every 15 mins for only €6 single or €10 return. You need to get off at Ushers Quay.  From Ushers Quay the hostel is just a short walk away. You have to cross a bridge and walk for approximately 5-7 minutes and you will reach the hostel!

You can also take a cab from the airport what will cost you about 25-30 euro’s for a single trip and it will take you about 25-30 minutes, depending on the traffic.

The hostel is also perfectly located to a lot of Dublin Hotspots. You can walk almost everywhere. From the shopping street to one of the distillery’s or famous Pubs, the Gen is at the perfect location!
Also as a lady traveler I must say that it is in a very safe area as well. I walked back from the city center to the hostel in the middle of the night. It took about 15 minutes (this can totally be faster normally but I just walk slow) and even though I ran in to some drunk people, they are totally in their own little world and I was not bothered at all.

As I said, the Generator caters to all your wishes. For the budget traveler, there are dorms where you can stay and the prices currently start 8,50 euro and you can get a private room from 39 euro’s.
Schermafbeelding 2015-11-08 om 21.43.38 Schermafbeelding 2015-11-08 om 21.43.27What I also really like about the hostel is that they have a special all female dorm for all the lady travelers!
And the cool thing is that they even have a room with a jacuzzi for the female travelers!
I mean, this sounds more like a luxury hotel now, doesn’t it?

The Generator does offer a breakfast service at a really cheap price. The breakfast is basic but it has everything you need to fill your tummy. Break, eggs, cheese, yoghurt, fruit, coffee and juice. If you would like to have a bit more of an extensive breakfast you can always go to the Cafe to enjoy a wider variety of food and drinks. This is a la carte and not included in the standard breakfast package but definitely worth it.

My first night I have stayed in a private room that could accommodate up to 3 people. There was a single bed and a double bed and the room comes with an ensuite bathroom and I even had a small balcony.

The room was quite spacious and very clean. I also liked the design. The wooden furniture created a cool vibe and the Cloud Mural was pretty cool too!

This room is perfect for solo travelers or people who are on a business trip but still are on a budget. You have the privacy of your own room but if you like company you can go to one of the hang out areas and meet new friends!

Schermafbeelding 2015-11-08 om 21.16.57The second night I stayed in a mixed dorm room. Mixed dorms are always a big adventure for me but what I have noticed after visiting my 3rd Generator Hostel (Londen and Copenhagen were the other two) is that The Generator Hostel really attracts a cool crowd. Trendy Travelers that like to stay in a trendy place. I have met some great people during my stay and I am sure that if you will chose to stay in the Gen too that you will make some awesome new friends too!

Both rooms were incredibly clean. The beds were comfy too! In the dorm I also had an ensuite bathroom only here I had to share it with all my roommates. But sharing a bathroom with 8 people is still okay! The rooms were really spacious. Good thing: you have your own space underneath your bed where you can keep your luggage so you don’t have to store this in the middle of the room. Of course some travelers still do this. Haha. But at least you have the opportunity to store your luggage and to keep your valuables safe because you can lock your storage with your own lock!

Would I recommend this hostel?
I would definitely recommend this hostel to all the travelers. From female travelers, couple travelers, businesspeople or just the average backpacker. This hostel will be the perfect place for you to stay.
The people working in the hostel are super friendly and very helpful. They will give you great tips on what to do, visit and they will make sure that your trip to Dublin is unforgettable!
From private rooms, to mixed dorms. From one of the many events that they organize to the perfect location. Yes, The Gen in Dublin is definitely the place to be on your next visit to Dublin!

My Awkward Encounters- On a plane to Oslo

Hey lovelies!

How are you today? I am doing great!
I have decided to continue with the ‘My Awkward Encounters’ column. I wrote a series about my ‘awkward encounters between me and my hot neighborboy’ and it was always so much fun to share these stories with you. Since me and the hottie neighborboy are close to over, well, over, I thought that instead of writing about him, I could continue to write about my awkward encounters. Because trust me, I am an awkward girl, getting in awkward situations, all the time. So why not let you enjoy these with me?

I have already got plenty of situations that I want to share but let’s start with the one of this morning.. –
12191603_459822214224738_9188441319696984192_nI am writing this to you from the plane on my way to Oslo. I will celebrate my birthday there. In the past decade I have never celebrated my birthday in the city or country I actually live in. For me it is such a great time to actually go abroad with loved ones to celebrate your life!

Because that is something everyone should do. Celebrate yourself! Be happy and thankful and love yourself!

In the past I have celebrated my birthday in Brussels, Singapore, Kuala Lumpur, Jakarta, Bali, Copenhagen and I thought this time Oslo was an amazing destination.

As you all know I currently live in Antwerp and I had such a busy month of traveling. I went to Malaga, Madrid, Barcelona, Rome, Porto, Dublin, Nice, Paris, Munich and Berlin and even though my body kind of wanted to have a quiet time at home just relaxing and celebrating my birthday at my own place I could not resist it.

You can never stop a wandering heart I guess.

I can not wait to go back to Oslo and to explore the city and of course to take lots of pictures for you so we can enjoy this city together. I will also do a review at the Radisson Blu Plaza hotel which I can’t wait for. The hotel is gorgeous and it has it’s own sky bar at the 34th floor of the building, sounds perfect right?

While I am writing this, as I mentioned I am in the plane now and I have the „middle seat’, it always sucks when you have the middle seat. I actually have to pee now but my neighbor is sleeping so I can not get out. Haha. Normally people would just wake those sleepy heads but this guy is already so annoyed with me and I do not want to piss him of even more. Before the plane took of and we were waiting due to a passenger that was late I asked him if I could get up cause I needed something from my bag that was already in the overhead luggage department. He gave me this awkward stare, roled his eyes and got up so I could pass. It really was like I was the worst thing that ever happened to him. I tried to make one of my (obviously failed and awkward jokes) by saying, I hate being in the aisle sea because than I always had to bother peoplet. Obvi, this was the joke cause he was in the aisle seat but he did not get it, actually, I also don’t get it anymore when I am writing this but when I said it I thought it was somewhat funny. haha. He corrected me: „ I am in the aisle seat, you are ‚JUST’ inn the middle seat”. – „just in the middle seat? What is wrong with being in the middle seat? Is that for peasants or something? –Okay, thank you sir for pointing that out.

I went to get something from my bag and this dude actually sat back down. After I think approximately 3 minutes, when I came back I got yet another annoyed look. I asked him if I could ‚Please” sit down. It felt like I was asking him a favor, to be able to sit, in my own freaking seat. He got up and roled his eyes again. I am sorry, but what did you expect? That I would just not come back anymore or I would disappear like I am some kind of Houdini magic act. Dumb ass dude.

12191862_459822114224748_1449451219035954418_nBut let’s continue. I will share my current situation. I am now stuck between a
lovely old American guy
that is sleeping and snoring a bit and between the Norwegian guy who is annoyed with
me that is also sleeping while probably dreaming of pushing me out of the plane.
In the picture it almost looks like he is posing for the picture, haha. But obviously he is not. The picture still cracks me up. He thought I was so annoying, but I will always have a great picture to remember my awkward moment with him: 12187857_459822224224737_2990001567947473714_n
And than there are these boys. Oh- MY-GOD! I am not sure if you can see them clearly on the picture but they are gorgeous. I mean G.O.R.G.E.O.U.S and obviously something awkward happend. ( You can’t see them clearly in the pic though, it is the guy that is standing and the blondie to his right).12191544_459822167558076_812448008699724323_nThey are extremely tall, it would not surprise me if they were basketballplayers cause they do have that height and body. They are blond and blue eyed (HALLLO, Totally my vikingtype). When we were walking down the aisle the boys were actually right behind me. They were talking with each other so the one directly behind me looked back at his friend while talking to him. When I reached my seat I had to put my luggage in the overhead department so I bend over to pick my trolley up so I could lift it. The guy directly behind me did not see that cause he was looking behind him talking to his friend which caused this awkward situation: Me, bending over with my ass directly in his, well, you know what and him bumping in to my ass. I almost fell but fortunately I could still regroup and recover. I said, well, normally it does not go this fast, you could at least introduce yourself first. He laughed so hard and I laughed too. Yes, at least one joke that worked. He introduced him self and he even helped me with my luggage. Than, when he lifted my luggage to store it his t-shirt lived and I saw his body. I do not know why I have this obvious reaction to hot body’s, I wish I could be smooth and subtle but before it I said: Damn….while having my mouth dropped all the way to the floor. OMG, I felt like such a perf! Haha. When I realized that I said that out loud and that was not a sound in my head I immediately said sorry while standing there feeling extremely embarrassed. Than he did something that totally surprised me. He said no girl, and he looked at me from head to toe and said, Damnnnn and he blinked- too.

I wanted to blink back but I remembered, I can’t blink, it always looks like a weird twitch, so I did not. I thought I embarrassed myself enough for one morning.

We both laughed and I sat down. This happend I think within 2 minutes but it felt like it lasted forever.

So there you are, I am not even in Oslo yet and i already had my awkward moments. I can not wait to experience more, knowing myself I will have plenty of these moments and when I do I will share them with you directly! 🙂

How to pack your suitcase like a boss!

lv suitcseHey Lovelies!

How are all of you doing? I am doing great. I am lying in bed, typing this post for you guys as I my mind is taking a trip on it’s own. Saturday my big Euro Trip will start.

4 Countries, 8 cities, 10 days- Can I do this thing? Sure I can! It will be a very fun trip and I can not wait to see, discover and explore.

I will start my trip in Madrid and I will continue to Malaga, Barcelona, Rome, Munchen, Berlin, Nice and Paris. I can not wait to see these cities as a lot of them I have not seen before. I am originally from Holland but since I lived in Asia and traveled a lot in especially South East Asia, I currently am more of an expert on that continent. But that is about to change. 2015 has brought me already so many lovely travels and trips like my most recents from the past month: Porto in Portugal and Dublin in Ireland. Both cities/countries I have not visited up until last month.

Due to all these travels I have developed an amazing ‘fast packing skill technique that today I will share with you all so you, just like myself, can ‘Pack like a boss too’ !

1. Where are you going? – Understand your destination
It is very important that you understand your destination. Are you going to a sunny destination or to a colder destination. What will you need? Make a mental moodboard of all the stuff you need and than you will continue to the next step;

2. Make lists – preparation is everything.
The common mistake that people make is to skip this step. Why waste time on writing down everything that you have to pack right? Wrong! It might take you an extra 15 minutes but after that it is quite easy. It is like having your grocery list while walking in the supermarket. You can walk down every aisle and just get all the products you need and put them in your shopping cart. The same with traveling. Lists will be your best friend.

3. Toiletry bags and plastic containers are your best friend- Organize your stuff!
I always organize my stuff. And you should do it too. Put everything in a bag or container of it’s own in the category it belongs too. For example:
Keep all your chargers (Phone, laptop camera) in one toiletry bag (yes they are meant for your make up but why not use them for other purposes? They are so handy!
Also have a separate bag for your bra’s and undies. When you arrive at your location it is so much easier to find anything and you won’t have to look for hours for that one favorite pair of knickers.

4. Pack smart- treat your suitcase like it is a Tetris Game
Remember playing Tetris when you were a kid? Or well, if you are like me you probably played it somewhere this week. haha. The point of the game is to fit everything together perfectly in straight rows- that will give you the perfect score. And that is kind of the same thing as packing your suitcase. You want to get as much in as you can and you do not want to wase space. You already made a smart choice by organizing your categories in separate bags as mentioned in step 3. Now it is time to place all the containers and toiletry bags neatly in your suitcase. The best way to pack your suitcase is to fill both halves. Some people just stash everything in one side and than flap the over over it and they are like-done. This way you can actually pack less and you do not use your suitcase to it’s full advantage. When you pack both halves and you separate them by a carton board (if your suitcase does not come with it’s own board you can use a flat carton board, a very cheap solution to create more space in your luggage and keep it well organized) you will see that you have a better overview of what goes where and you will use the capacity of your suitcase to it’s fullest!

I hope these tips help! What are your best tips?
