Short intro from the #TOTD: Hello fellow travellers!!! My name is Shereen, I am 31 years old, and I’m originally from Washington, D.C. I lived in Southern California for the past 8 years, but I have recently moved abroad to Prague! I wanted to pursue my passion for traveling so I moved to Europe to be able to travel more freely and to be closer to many coveted destinations on my travel list! I am documenting all my travels and crazy adventures on my instagram account @crazytravelista (and also my Facebook page by the same name).
Where did you go for your first travel experience/holiday? My first overseas adventure was to Italy back in 2006. I had always dreamed of going to Italy and experiencing the culture, the food, and the beautiful architecture. I have always been afraid of flying, but I realized that life is short and I needed to conquer that fear in order to see the world. So I bought a ticket and off I went! The trip far exceeded my expectations and opened up my eyes to a whole new undiscovered world. This trip sparked my extreme passion (obsession) to travel more and see what else the world has to offer. As soon as I got back, I booked my next trip overseas, and I have been on the go ever since! I have been happily bit by the travel bug, and am content with having this life long obsession. I will never stop traveling!
2. Which 5 items do you always bring on your travels? 1. iPhone 5s- I couldn’t go anywhere without my phone and it allows me to capture unexpected pictures when I don’t want to lug around my big camera. Most of my travel photos are taken on my phone. It also allows me to keep in touch with people back home through Facebook and WhatsApp. 2. GoPro-because sometimes a camera phone just isn’t enough. The GoPro allows me to take great underwater shots and great panorama pictures. I’m also a huge fan of the selfie stick, which allows me to get fantastic pictures even when i’m traveling solo. 3. Universal adaptor/converter-this is a must for world travellers! When hopping from country to country, you need to be able to charge all your devices and also hair appliances. This device has been a complete life saver!! 4. Charles Schwabb bank card-this card reimburses for all foreign ATM fees and comes in real handy when I don’t want to lose money through unnecessary ATM fees and when I don’t want to carry around loads of cash. 5. Lastly, I wouldn’t go anywhere without my silk pillow! That thing has been to several different countries with me and provides a comfort from home that I can’t from anything else. 3. Where are you now and where will you go for your next trip? I am currently living in Prague for the past 3 months. My next trip is next week and I’m going to Vienna, Austria and Budapest Hungary. I am half Austrian so it is very nice to be able to visit one of home countries. I haven’t been to Budapest yet, but I heard it’s an incredible city with a lot to offer so that makes me super excited! I am really looking forward to bathing in the outdoor thermal baths while sipping on some wine! 4. What is your dream destination and why? Wow, this is a very hard question to answer for an avid traveler! My dream destination is anywhere in the Greek Islands! because there is just such a positive energy in Greece, the beaches are absolutely stunning, and the food is spectacular!! But for somewhere I haven’t been yet, I would say New Zealand is on the top of my list because of the incredible natural landscapes and the ability to do so many outdoor activities. I would love to visit Queenstown and participate in some extreme activities like bungee jumping. Hey, it IS the adventure capital of the world! 5. What is your favorite travel picture that you took and why/what is the story behind it ? Travel pic attached.I am extremely afraid of heights, but nothing was going to come between me and this view. I had seen pictures of Shipwreck Beach (in Zakynthos, Greece) before, but nothing prepared me for the emotions that came across me when I saw it with my 2 eyes. I have traveled to many fantastically beautiful places before, but when I looked over this cliff, the voices of the tourists became mute, my fears disappeared, and I was struck with uncontrollable emotions that left tears in my eyes. I couldn’t speak. It was the most surreal experience and I had never felt so free in my life. The most crystal blue/green sparkling waters and magnificent cliff formations I have ever seen. To this day, that was the most beautiful site I have ever seen and it left such a lasting impression on me that I will always cherish. It is experiences like these that keep me traveling and ignite a bigger fire in me to see more of the world! 6. If you could take 3 celeb travel buddies on your next trip, who would they be and why? Jim Carey-because he would keep me laughing every single day and provide constant entertainment. Laughter is the best medicine! Colin Farrell-because hey, who doesn’t love a little eye candy? He also looks like he would be fun to drink with! Shakira-because I am obsessed with her and her music! And also, because she would keep me fit by teaching me to belly dance. 7. Are you a backpacker or a flash packer? And what was the best backpack/flashback accommodation where you have ever stayed?I like to call my travel style “balling on a budget”. It’s a mix between budget and luxury travel. To this day, I haven never stayed in a hostel. I don’t stay in 5 star hotels either, or I wouldn’t be able to travel as much as I do.. If you are traveling with a partner, you can often find a steal that is even cheaper than staying at a hostel. Also, I love staying at an apartment because you get more of a local feel of your surrounding city. An added bonus is bonding with the wonderful hosts and making new friends! The best place I have stayed so far would be an apartment (I liked to call it a chateau) in Positano, Italy. The place was massive in size with 2 huge rooms with double doors, and it was on the top of the cliffs with an outstanding view of the city and our own private balcony to sip wine on and enjoy the surroundings. We felt like royalty for the 4 nights we were there and I would definitely return!
