#TOTD: Thetechgypsy

Schermafbeelding 2014-11-27 om 12.26.13 Hey Friends! I love how I find more and more cool travelers to feature for my ‘Traveler of the Day’ #TOTD project. Today I have found yet another cool traveler that also runs her own awesome website. Currently this traveler is located in Scandinavia and she shares the most beautiful pictures with us on her Instagram account. Let’s get inspired ! Short message from the #TOTD: My name is Robyn Clifford and I run the travel website thetechgypsy.com. The name is a brainchild of the notion of travelling like a gypsy, writing like a digital nomad. I’m 22 years old, was born in England, live in Australia, and am currently spending my days exploring Scandinavia (while trying to adjust to the dramatically cooler climate). Last year I travelled Australia in a camper van, studied to get my scuba diving licence and had the privilege to swim with some extremely beautiful, extremely threatened species. I’m a huge believer in authentic travel experiences and the notion that everyone can have an extraordinary life. Ultimately I believe that I need to explore this world, its cultures, its peoples, before I can take my place amidst it all. If you’re a travel blogger or just want to connect, please see http://www.thetechgypsy.com 1. Where did you go for your first travel experience/holiday?Karijini-National-Park-tour The first one I have a memory of is skiing in Andorra when I was very young as we could easily commute around Europe, but the first travel memory that seriously ignited the spark of travel-lust was visiting Karijini National Park in Western Australia. It’s an indescribable, untouched gem in the middle of the Australian desert. From waterholes of clean water to the gum trees surrounding you on each side, to the songs of the kookaburras as you drift off in a tent under the stars- everything about Karijini screamed adventure, and that there was so much to see in life. It shattered any hope of pursuing a ‘normal job’ and instead launched me into the world of travel blogging and documenting my travels. You can read about Karijini here: http://www.thetechgypsy.com/karijini-australia-the-last-wilderness/ 2. Which 5 items do you always bring on your travels? opi-im-not-really-a-waitress1. My Fujifilm X-m1: my travel companion which does all the work for me to make my photos look good. It’s small, it’s powerful and I absolutely adore it. 2. A good book: there’s always some sort of waiting time/commuting period which I find can be passed easiest in the pages of a good story. I’m currently reading ‘The Casual Vacancy’. 3. My iPhone in a lifeproof case: Lets me take good underwater photos when snorkelling, and protects it in the snow while skiing. I wouldn’t be without either of these guys. I’ve also got duolingo stored on there so that I can practice some phrases from local dialects when entering a new place. 4. OPI nail polish in ‘I’m not really a waitress’: While my hair and makeup is often destroyed from wind, water or sweat, my one weakness is having nice nails in my favourite hue. It’s also an inside joke- when I was saving up to travel to Scandinavia, I had multiple waitressing jobs but I knew it wasn’t the life for me- I wanted to be a wanderer. So the name brings me back to my roots, while keeping me feeling professional and ready for anything. 5. So I can update http://www.thetechgypsy.com when I’m out and about and check my emails for new products and business opportunities. It also lets me type away at the new e-book we’re releasing in December. 3. Where are you now and where will you go for your next trip?gothenburg-christmas-market I’m currently in Northern Denmark, just south of Norway, but fingers crossed will be in Goteburg in Sweden within the next few weeks to experience their theme park. My nextbooked holiday however is to Ubud in Bali where I’m going to be exploring the rainforests and heading to a glassblowing workshop with my friends at Advlo. 4. What is your dream destination and why?image India. After each movie I see where India is filmed, it just lights this thirst to experience the culture, the colours and the movement of India. It’s a place of such highs and lows, rich and poor, colour and music. It looks to be so different to any other place I’ve visited and I’m hoping to get there by the end of next year. 5. What is your favorite travel picture that you took and why/what is the story behind it?DCIM100GOPRO This was taken on a GoPro Silver Hero 3 in Exmouth, Western Australia in the final weeks of my stay up there. It was a perfect day, with good friends, good music and terrific visibility in the water. After a lazy swim with a turtle, a few reef sharks and countless fish, I tried to take some photos of the coral but they just weren’t coming out. It was only when I was flicking through my photos later on that I realised I must have taken this one by accident. It reminds me of my days exploring the ocean, and is Ariel-esque in the notion of the lands above and the lands below. 6. If you could take 3 celeb travel buddies on your next trip, who would they be and why?Russell-Brand_1534181c Ewan McGregor: His long way round series to me, epitomised the life of the traveller. It was raw, it didn’t hold back, and it made me yearn to take off on a motorbike and travel through as many countries as I can. Russell Brand: I adore his notions of political science, while he’s also incredibly funny. Plus he’s from my hometown of Essex, so would be nice to have a little piece of home with me. David Attenborough: He’s brilliant, he’s so incredibly intelligent, and from his writings and shows he just seems to be so humble and curious. I think he’d be a terrific travel buddy. 7. Are you a backpacker or a flash packer? And what was the best backpack/flashback accommodation where you have ever stayed?bali3 Definitely budget travelling. I would rather spend more on experiences than a comfier bed for the night. I do however like to have a private room if I’m travelling alone every now and again. I like using AirBnB too, to connect with local people and stay in the conditions that they live in. So many brilliant finds in Asia, and have currently booked a beach side stay, with the entire apartment to myself in Ubud, Bali, at an incredibly low price, so I’d have to say that’s my best bargain so far. I hope you guys enjoyed the interview! Love you guys, x
