Hey lovely friends,
Day 3 of the new DOBE GLOBE schedule. As promised another #TOTD and later on today a post about Traveling in style: Fashion.
But back to the #TOTD. As being a Dutchie myself, I love to discover other Dutch bloggers with a passion for travel. I met this girl through Instagram and I think she has a cool account. She has her own travelblog as well where she keeps up on her travels. What seperates her from other travel bloggers is that she mostly focusses on budget traveling and gives great tips about this!
Short message from the #TOTD: Hi, I am Milou, a twenty-something travel addict that inspires budget babes to live a bad ass life. I live in The Netherlands which is so small it makes me want to leave all the time. And so I travel at least once a month. I work as a freelance journalist and editor, and a part time travel blogger. Travel is meditation for me, it quiets my soul and my mind, and fills me with happiness. And you don’t need tons of money for it!
1. Where did you go for your first travel experience/holiday?
I think my first holiday was to the Cote d’Azur region in France. I remember my parents telling me about the first time I ate ice-cream in Monaco (the same holiday). After I tasted it I kept reaching my little hands up and asking for more (this process still goes on whenever I see ice-cream). My childhood holidays would almost always take me to France, with the occasional trip to Spain, Italy and the US (I’ve been there 3 times).
2. Which 5 items do you always bring on your travels?
The obvious: passport, money, camera, phone, and… well I usually bring a hat! It’s a life saver for me with my fair skin, and it glamorizes your outfit instantly.
3. Where are you now and where will you go for your next trip?
I’m home, recovering from my 4 days in London. On my birthday I will go back to the UK for a week and I’ll visit Newcastle & Edinburgh. In october I’ll go to Athens. And after that… it’s not decided yet.
4. What is your dream destination and why?
I have about three million places on my dream destination list. I’d love to go back to New York, travel to Iceland, Mexico, the Greek islands, India, south east Asia in general, Indonesia, Australia, Japan, and big parts of Afrika. So… yeah.
5. What is your favorite travel picture that you took and why/what is the story behind it?
This picture is one of my favorites, I really can’t choose. Whenever I look at this I just giggle. Me and my boyfriend went to Egypt for a week for an all inclusive getaway. The plan was to not do anything (we were out on trips almost every single day HA). One of the excursions was ‘riding a camel’. Turns out they literally let us ride it 100 meters and back, and forced us to take some cheesy pictures posing with our hands up while the photographer held a stone close to the lens, so it looked like we were holding up a giant rock. The rock just hovered somewhere above our hands. You can see the people behind us and next to us with exactly the same pose as us, looking uncomfortable. Boyfriend and I literally had tears steaming down our face from laughter when we first saw the picture back home. This picture reminds me of that moment, with the exception that you can see how genuinely happy we look.
6. If you could take 3 celeb travel buddies on your next trip, who would they be and why?
Ha, that’s so random. I’d probably take Jennifer Lawrence, because we’d have loads of fun (and I wouldn’t have to feel guilty eating pizza all the time). I’d also take Ricky Gervais because I’m obsessed with his show Derek, and I think he’s hilarious. And lastly I’d take Benedict Cumberbatch because… I mean, a girl needs company at night 😉
7. Are you a backpacker or a flash packer ? And what was the best backpack/flashback accommodation where you have ever stayed?
I am definitely a budget traveler, although I’m more of a budget hotel-person than a hostel person. I think luxury is not confined to a budget. The best place I stayed… first thing that comes to mind is Qube Hotel in London. I just stayed there a week ago and it was fantastic!
A lot of people are writing about traveling but the thing I love to discover while doing this #TOTD is that everyone has their own field of expertise and interest. Some people are all about luxury traveling and others, like Milou, are all about budget traveling. Everyone can give great tips in their own field of expertise and discovering new bloggers is always fun! I love to learn from my followers, my friends and all of my #TOTD’s.
I hope you guys enjoyed this #TOTD and I will talk to you guys later !
Love you, x
